Dr. Jitendra Singh, Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office, stated yesterday that the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is actively addressing the growing concern of space debris accumulation caused by the proliferation of Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite constellations. The statement, released through the Press Information Bureau (PIB), emphasized that ISRO is implementing “all possible steps” to mitigate and prevent the environmental hazards posed by these constellations, which are increasingly deployed for global internet services (PIB).

The proliferation of LEO satellite constellations—clusters of satellites operating at altitudes below 2,000 kilometers—has raised alarms among space agencies worldwide due to their potential to exacerbate orbital debris.
