Akhilesh Yadav Criticizes BJP in Lok Sabha Over Youth Oppression and Exam Leaks
During a debate on the Public Examinations Amendment Bill, the Samajwadi Party leader compared recent protests to the Emergency and predicted a future regime change.
Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav delivered a sharp critique of the BJP in the Lok Sabha, targeting the government on issues ranging from the Ram Temple to alleged paper leaks. The speech comes amid ongoing political friction between the ruling party and the opposition over governance and accountability. Yadav's remarks highlight the opposition's strategy of challenging the BJP on both cultural and administrative fronts during the current parliamentary session.
Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav compared the police action against protesting students to the excesses of the Emergency during a debate on The Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026 in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday. He said batons were used during the Emergency but this time “current” was also given to students (Indian Express).
The remarks came after Union Minister Kiren Rijiju asked whether Yadav would support a government that brought a Bill to respond to students or those who imposed the Emergency. Yadav replied that just as there was a regime change after the Emergency, there would be one now too, adding that even God would not save the government because its people were involved in the “maha paap” (grave sin) of “chadhaava chori” (theft of temple donations) (Indian Express).
Yadav said the youth had forced the government to bend, resulting in the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan as Education Minister. “Ek Pradhan ji ko hataa kar Pradhan Mantri ko bachaa liya apne (By removing Pradhan, you saved the Prime Minister),” he said, expressing hope the government would accept all student demands (Indian Express).
He questioned why paper leaks persisted after the government piloted a law in 2024, asking how those who could not save donations made to the Ram temple in Ayodhya would prevent leaks. Criticising the National Testing Agency for running on outsourced staff, he warned the whole government might become outsourced one day (Indian Express).
Yadav accused the government of attacking primary education, citing the closure of more than one lakh schools nationally and 26,386 in Uttar Pradesh alone, which he said showed the government did not want children of the poor and Dalits to study. He claimed board question papers were being leaked on a large scale and paid tribute to students who died by suicide, demanding Rs 1 crore for each grieving family (Indian Express).
The Kannauj MP also alleged the government was capturing higher education institutions by installing people of “one hue” in top positions. Accusing the Centre of engaging in the politics of hate, he warned that the country’s demographic dividend should not be allowed to become a calamity (Indian Express).
