A two-day National Conference on the Rabi Campaign 2026 is scheduled to begin tomorrow, September 28, in New Delhi. The event will focus on the upcoming winter cropping season, which is critical for the country's food grain production.

A two-day National Conference on the Rabi Campaign 2026 will open in New Delhi on Monday, bringing together officials to finalise preparations for the winter cropping season that drives a significant share of India’s annual food grain output (PIB). The meeting comes as the agriculture ministry coordinates input supply, credit flow, and procurement targets ahead of the sowing window that typically begins in October.

The conference is expected to review the availability of seeds, fertilisers, and pesticides for key rabi crops such as wheat, mustard, and pulses, while also assessing the progress of crop insurance enrolment and the Kisan Credit Card saturation drive. State agriculture departments have been asked to present district-level contingency plans for regions where reservoir levels or soil moisture deficits could delay planting.

Senior officials from the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare will chair technical sessions on climate-resilient varieties and the rollout of digital advisories through the Kisan Sarathi platform. The agenda also includes a review of the minimum support price operations for the 2026-27 marketing season, with procurement agencies instructed to pre-position gunny bags and storage capacity in major mandis.

The gathering follows a series of regional consultations held over the past month, during which states flagged concerns over the timely release of subsidised phosphatic and potassic fertilisers under the nutrient-based subsidy scheme. The centre has indicated that allocation orders for the first half of the rabi season will be finalised during the conference to avoid last-minute shortages.

While the focus remains on ensuring a smooth sowing cycle, the meeting will also evaluate the impact of the recent monsoon withdrawal on soil moisture profiles across the Indo-Gangetic plain. The India Meteorological Department is expected to present its extended range forecast for the next four weeks, which will inform the final acreage targets set by the ministry.
